For someone who has spent the last 35+ years in marketing — and over 12 of those running my own agency — you’d think I’d have all the answers when it comes to marketing myself.
But the truth?
After recently parting ways with a few clients, I found myself sitting in an uncomfortable space. A space many entrepreneurs know, but rarely talk about:
“If I’ve lost clients, how can I keep marketing myself with integrity?”
It felt like a contradiction.
It felt like impostor syndrome whispering, “You can’t show up and talk about success when you’re going through a dip.”
It felt like if I was
really authentic, I’d go quiet for a while.
But what I’ve learned — deeply and personally — is this:
1. Losing Clients Doesn’t Mean I’ve Failed — It Means I’ve Evolved
The truth is, clients come and go.
Sometimes they outgrow the container.
Sometimes
I outgrow the container.
Sometimes values misalign.
Sometimes they can’t afford to continue.
And sometimes, letting go is exactly what is needed to happen — even if it didn’t feel like it at the time.
What got me to this chapter in my career won’t get me to the next.
And I’m learning to see client exits as sacred turning points — not shameful endings.
2. Integrity Isn’t About Perfection — It’s About Presence
We live in a world that praises visibility but punishes vulnerability.
But I’m not here to post a highlight reel.
Marketing with integrity doesn’t mean pretending everything is always perfect.
It means showing up with
truth,
clarity, and
respect for the journey.
So yes — I’ve lost some clients.
But I haven’t lost:
And honestly? That’s what real marketing is made of.
3. Marketing Honestly is the Strongest Campaign I’ve Ever Run
I used to think I had to wait until I had a “win” to post something.
Now I realise — my truth
is the win.
I’ve had to release patterns, projects, and even people that no longer aligned.
It hasn’t made me weaker. It’s made me
sharper.
So here’s what I want to say, without flinching:
“If you’re building a business with purpose, clarity, and soul — and you want a marketing strategist who knows how to navigate the messy middle — I’m still here. Wiser. Bolder. And more human than ever.”
4. My Experience Doesn’t Expire Because of a Slow Season
I’ve helped dozens of businesses reposition, rebuild, and relaunch.
My knowledge didn’t disappear because of a contract ending.
My strategy muscle didn’t stop working.
My intuition didn’t leave the building.
And the legacy I’m building — for myself, my son, my niece, and my clients — continues to move forward.
Even in the dip. I’ve helped dozens of businesses reposition, rebuild, and relaunch.
My knowledge didn’t disappear because of a contract ending.
My strategy muscle didn’t stop working.
My intuition didn’t leave the building.
And the legacy I’m building — for myself and for my clients — continues to move forward.
Even in the dip.
Final Reflection: This Is Authenticity
We talk so much about “authentic marketing” — but here’s the truth:
You don’t show up despite the struggle.
You show up
because of it.
This is what being a purpose-led, values-driven entrepreneur
really looks like:
And when you do, your marketing becomes more than a message. It becomes a movement.
If This Resonated With You…
If you’re in the thick of a pivot, a quiet season, or an identity shift in your brand — I see you.
And when you’re ready to turn that mess into meaning, and that purpose into positioning — I’d love to help.
Let’s build something that
feels like you again.
